The Master is the nominal head of the Company. He is appointed by invitation of the Court of Assistants, and serves in office for one year, commencing and terminating on Charter Day.
The Master's duties include the Chairmanship of the Full Court and Court of Assistants, presiding at all Company functions and representing the Company at the various functions of other guilds throughout the country.
Mr Roger Dixon took over as Master on the 24th June 2009. He is a York lad born and bred.
Admitted as a solicitor 15th March 1972 following "education" at St Olaves, St Peters Schools in York and Durham University. Roger is married to Wendy and they have two children - James and Laura.
Roger became a Partner in Hague & Dixon (the family firm) in November 1972.
He has held the following appointments: Secretary to the Yorkshire Law Society 1981 - 1991; Council Member (of the Law Society in London) 1991 - 1996; President of the Yorkshire Union of Local Law Societies 2003 - 2006.
Deputy District Judge North Eastern Circuit 1993 - 2000.
Former President of the Yorkshire Law Society (1997), York Lions Club (1979) and Chairman Macmillan Cancer Support (on and off from 1976 - 2002).
Former Master of the Guild of Scriveners, Chairman of Governors of Welburn Hall School and Clerk to the Governors of St Peters School.
Chairman of YBC Young Groves and Trustee of the Deanne Gee Memorial Trust.
Interests include Cricket and Rugby League (watching both no participating); also hit the guitar now and again!
