Secondly, and wherever possible, to provide financial support to deserving and needy young people for their advancement, encouragement and skill development in the fields of art, craftsmanship and music.
The Members of the Company also seek to maintain the Company's traditions and ceremonies.
The Hall can be viewed by appointment, and is open to the public at certain times of the year. For details email; clerk@merchant-taylors-york.org. To hire the hall for private functions, including weddings, conferences, exhibitions, meetings and dinners email: info@poppycaterers.co.uk .
The origin of the Livery Companies is lost in the mists of antiquity but their descent can be traced from the medieval "misteries" or guilds which were to be found in many of the leading cities of Europe.
